Good access to the city. Wonderful towel animals
I wish I had checked out the parking arrangements in advance. The beggars distracted from the experience.
The location of the hotel is fantadtic, right outside the gate to Chinatown, and next to all the Union Square shopping and dining.
The room is very basic, and the bathroom is a bit difficult to maneuver -- old style standing bathtub with curtain wrapped around it, and few handy places to set bath items.
Location was excellent. Staff polite and helpful. Scrupulously clean. All day coffee facility excellent. Would visit again just for above.
Room rather small, dark and dingy at first glance (though scrupulously clean) for the price we were paying, compared to hotels in other towns we visited in us. No eating facility. Staff not knowledgable outside immediate area (eg knew nothing about a carnival being advertised down town on local news).
Great location, cleanliness of room & bathroom superb, reasonable rates for the area.
This hotel is an excellent value. Our room was completely remodelled and the room was a decent size for the Union Square area with a huge closet. There was a safe, a flat screen tv, a hair dryer, and toiletries were replenished each day. The location is excellent, two blocks from Union Square, three and a half blocks to the Palace Hotel and Montgomery Street Bart, and adjacent the China Gate beginning of Chinatown. The windows open completely allowing for cooling on warmer evenings. I had a conference at the Palace but didn't want to pay such high rates. This hotel was much less expensive and nearby.
Like with all hotels in Union Square, the streets can get noisy. I have had this issue with every hotel in the area including the expensive Palace. However, I would return to this hotel because the room was nice, it was an excellent value, and a great location.
The location is very convenient, closed to China Town and Union Square
The room is smelly and very small; My room No. is 306, no sunshine in the room; The serive people are cold and you would never see smile on their faces; The bed is very uncomfortable; No air conditioner or heater;
We had a great stay at Baldwin Hotel - it was clean, quite basic but had everything you needed. It was in a really good location - we walked everywhere, even to Fisherman's Wharf and The Golden Gate Park. Really central, close to shops, Market Street, buses/cable cars/BART. On the doorstep of Chinatown. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We would recommend Cafe Claude for french cuisine and Akikos for Japanese food. They are both very close to the hotel.
The only thing I didn't like about Baldwin Hotel was that the 3rd floor corridor where our room was really smelled - like a combination of bad body odour and smoke. It didn't smell inside our room though so it wasn't too bad.
My room looked over Grant Street. Since I was on the eastern side, I enjoyed having the sun in my room in the morning,
Early morning neighbors were loud and smoking.
Proximty to all attractions
Staff were as friendly, helpful & approachable as billed (re comments on Booked.net). This is particularly helpful when you're new to the city. I think the location was excellent & the price was great.
Be prepared for some of the sounds of the city at night (e.g., garbage/recycling trucks after 11 pm) - when you're that central - it isn't dead quiet.
My room was very clean and the staff was very helpful and courteous. The location cannot be beat -- at the gates of Chinatown and great restaurants just steps away. Shopping is amazing and it was a nice walk to the convention center. I would heartily recommend the location.
Noise -- I was on the 10th floor, and while regular street noise was not an issue, garbage pickup (every night, sometimes twice a night) was very loud and woke me up. Bathroom vent which came on when you flipped on the lights sounded like a jet engine! Also, there was a street rave outside the hotel St. Pats night and it sounded as though they were next door. Even though it was a weeknight -- it went on till midnight.
I saw good reviews and I agree. Very affordable for San Fran; nice room with a view; great location; friendly staff.
good location. staff were fairly helpful. Was just a plain vanilla hotel with nothing special about it, so if you get a good rate online you want be disappointed. Don't pay top dollar.
No free parking. No wifi. Internet was so expensive. TV had a weird buzzing noise, we told staff but nothing got fixed.
the hotel is very clean and the staff are friendly. I was impressed by the room cleaning service. They fold the towels into the shape of some animals, like swan, cow, crab and change it every day. It is like a discovery to me. The rooms are spacious and comfortable.
Unfortunately they don't have free WIFI which is really not convenient. a bit noisy outside in the morning.
The hotel's location was fairly convenient to the Business District, Union Square and China Town.
The hotel had no facilities at all besides the room. The room was heated by a radiator with no controls in room. The room was very hot and sleeping was difficult. Elevator was small and slow. The bed was a double not a queen. The rating for this hotel was waaaay to generous.
